The Silver Sword
In class we have been reading a book called 'The Silver Sword' by the author Ian Serraillier This book is about a Polish family who gets separated during the Second World war. The main characters in this book are Jan, Edek, Ruth, Bronia and several other characters that will be briefly.
the Silver Sword is a very enjoyable book for all ages, however the part i liked the most was the chapter, "Jan finds a new pal". i liked this chapter because the of the theme Ian Serraillier told the story to us. Although this character came out for a brief time in this book my favorite character in this chapter was Mark. I liked Mark the most because of his e letter to his wife, i particularly liked the part where his letter says "...I ran like hell, and and it was all rubble and dust and scramble up here and slide down there...." it was a good time to add a comic relief.
Even in this book, however, there were parts i disliked such as the part where the children the children survives the storm while sailing in chapter 27. This chapter very impossible, for example it says "Their ankles were deep in the water..." This part was possibly the most impossible thing in the whole book as they drowned in a lake during a storm but somehow managed to survive without any injury or tragedy, also the fact that everything works out for them doesn't make sense. Mr. Serraillier would've made this book by being more realistic.
the silver sword is packed with several characteristics, like survival, war, mystery, journey, love, tragedy and much more.It isn't common for a normal book to have so many characteristics so I'm sure this is no normal book.
Overall, I enjoyed this book very much and I hope Ian Serraillier could write more books like this. It would've been better by being more realistic. A perfect classic for ages 12~13.
